White Student Hospitalized After Brutal Attack at School Sparks Outrage

A high school in South Florida is in the national spotlight again due to a violent incident.

On Tuesday, a video went viral of a white, male student from Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School being slammed and then brutally beaten by a group of Black students. Police told Miami’s 10 TV News the student sustained a skull fracture. The teenager is being treated at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The viral video sparked outrage within the same community that faced a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that claimed the lives of 17 people in 2018.

The incident also led to backlash on social media with many right-wing accounts claiming a double standard in coverage of school violence.

On X, formerly Twitter, the End Wokeness account posted to its 2 million followers, “A white kid from Stoneman Douglas High has been hospitalized after being chased and attacked by a group of black teens. Last month, a white teenager in Vegas was beaten and killed during a similar incident. These incidents should spark public outcry and lead to a national conversation about what is going on in our schools. Instead, we get radio silence from all the major talking heads.”

The conservative account, iamyesyouareno, posted, “A white Florida high school student is slammed headfirst onto concrete by a group of black students. This won’t receive major mainstream media coverage because it won’t fit their narrative.”

The Dapper Detective account said, “A Florida high school student is slammed headfirst onto the concrete after being savagely beaten by a group of blacks. Now reverse the roles…BLM would burn the entire country down.”

Coral Springs Police responded to a “report of a fight” at a community park at 3 p.m., the department said on X. Police have not said how many people were involved or if all were students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The violent incident, which reportedly occurred off campus, is under investigation.

Newsweek has reached out to the Coral Springs Police Department via email for additional comment.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Principal Michelle Kefford issued a statement Wednesday:

“Hello Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Families, this is Principal Kefford. I’m reaching out regarding a disturbing incident that took place off-campus, after school Tuesday at North Community Park in Coral Springs.

“Several students were involved in a physical altercation and one student was injured. While this park is not a school or district-operated property, the safety of our students is always our priority, and we are working with law enforcement to help identify those involved. Due to the open investigation, I am not able to provide additional details, but I want to assure you this situation is being taken seriously.

“Please do remind your students to say something if they see something. As always, thank you for your support.”
