Gov. DeSantis Signs Florida Parental Rights in Education Bill into Law

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed Florida’s highly controversial Parental Rights Education Bill, dubbed by critics the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, into law.

The legislation will take effect on July 1st.

During the signing ceremony, Gov. DeSantis said he’s seen “classroom materials about sexuality and woke gender ideology” and “libraries with clearly inappropriate, pornographic mature materials for young kids,” The Hill reports

He also said he found at least six school districts in Florida had policies to “cut parents out of decisions regarding their child’s well-being.”

Under the law classroom instruction related to sexual orientation or gender identity will be restricted in primary schools. Additionally, educators of all grade levels are prohibited from instructing those topics in a manner that is not “age appropriate or developmentally appropriate” for children.
